Triturus Profundis

Triturus Profundis — a transparent-skinned cross between a frog and a newt, creature design by Roberto Digiglio

Personal project · 3DTotal Excellence Award

A cross between a frog and a newt that lives in the depths of the earth, which is why its skin is transparent.

It is a very primitive amphibian. It feeds on large quantities of microscopic algae in underground water sources, using its proboscis. To compensate for poor vision, it relies on its antennae to pick up surrounding vibrations; the only reason it is not completely eyeless is the constant bioluminescence of the fungi living in its habitat.

The project began as a study of translucency in KeyShot, inspired by transparent animals such as the glass frog. I placed it in a laboratory setting for a touch of science fiction. It received a 3DTotal Excellence Award.
